Continuation of TinyLetter Experiment

Dear Everybody, I'm getting some really great letters from people and some really wonderful topics.  (Thank you for that.)  Sometimes they have nothing to do with one another and sometimes while the context is completely distinct, the underlying themes are inextricably intertwined.  Because your response has been unanimously positive, I am going to continue to write the letters as long as I get them from you.  I believe this could evolve into more and more. Some of you have such specific … [Read more...]

Loving Ourselves In Spite of Ourselves: Seventy-Pound Results

It all started when we were given an old, second-hand TV.  It's truly a novelty to watch the tube if you've been deprived of it for years on end, especially when things that are airing here in New Zealand are the same as what they're watching in the States, in England and in Australia.  Talk about feeling connected to what the world is watching!  There's a lot to choose from; the hilarious, dancing Ellen DeGeneres, that sell-out, phoney Dr. Phil and my personal favorite of all the … [Read more...]

TinyLetter

Dear Everybody,In addition to this blog, I'm going to try something new.  It's called TinyLetter.  See, for the past few weeks I've noticed something peculiar in my email correspondence with you all.  Now, none of you know one another, but yet somehow one conversation I was having with one person was echoing the concerns of someone else.  One of you would say something and it seemed to reverberate into the answer to another question in an entirely different, separate … [Read more...]

Live Anyway

First of all, I don’t think that bad days are necessarily all that “bad.”  They just are.  Their purposes are many and most likely, we won’t ever fully understand the Whys behind a bad day but that doesn’t necessarily matter.  Bad days (or weeks, months or years for that matter) act as a counterbalance to the good ones and afterall, we need that; if not for anything other than to know a good day when we have one.  Fine but the question was, “How do you get through … [Read more...]

Prisoner turned PhD, Dr. Paul Wood

I love hearing stories like this.  Paul Wood was sentenced to prison for murdering his drug dealer when he was eighteen.  At the time, his mother had just recently died of cancer.  Unable to cope with his loss, he says he made some bad decisions that led him down a dark path.  But while in jail he turned his life around and even earned his PhD.  Now he goes around giving motivational speeches about recognizing your own personal prison and how to change your life for the … [Read more...]
